Current Regulations:

The bag limit for wolves in Management Units 4-1 to 4-4, 4-9, 4-14 to 4-16, 4-19, 4-21 to 4-26, 4-32, 4-34 to 4-36 is 2

Proposed Regulations:

The bag limit for wolves in Management Units 4-1 to 4-4, 4-9, 4-14 to 4-16, 4-19, 4-21 to 4-26, 4-32, 4-34 to 4-36 is 3

Rationale:

Stakeholders across the region have raised concerns that wolf populations are increasing and there is substantial demand for additional hunting opportunity. Although research suggests that regulated hunting rarely limits population growth of wolves, the proposed regulation will enable minimal additional wolf harvest and align wolf seasons with adjacent regions (3 and 8). This regulation may also increase hunting pressure in caribou recovery zones and areas with cattle depredation (i.e. northern East Kootenay). Note that there is also a proposal to improve wolf harvest data collection through Compulsory Inspection.
