Decision Statement:

This regulation was approved as proposed and is included in the 2020-2022 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis.

Current Regulations:

There is no motor vehicle closure on the Dickebush Creek/Trapper Mainline Road

Proposed Regulations:

Year-round motor vehicle closure on the Dickebush Creek/Trapper Mainline Road

A forest licensee has proposed to harvest merchantable timber near the base of Trapper Mountain. Currently, this area has a short access trail and mountain goat hunters have challenging access to reach Trapper Mountain. The proposed block layout and road network is expected to improve hunter access potentially resulting in high harvest rates, which may adversely affect the long-term viability of the mountain goat Population Management Unit. Implementing a year-round motor vehicle closure for the new road is required to reduce hunter access and mitigate recreational ATV and snowmobile impacts (i.e. disturbance, displacement, etc.) on wildlife during the non-hunting season.

This proposed change is part of a First Nations request to address concerns of increased access and potential of increased hunting pressure.
