The underlying rocks are chert, pyritic argillites, tuffs and andesitic flow rocks of the Sylvester Group, and minor sill-like, mafic intrusives. The strata dip 60 to 75 degrees southwesterly. Thrust faults with accompanying silicification and pyritization also dip southwesterly.
