Geological Summary
OLD TOM AND SHOEMAKER FORMATIONS (TRIASSIC OR OLDER) COMPRISED OF GREENSTONE, PYROCLASTICS AND FLOW ROCKS, AND CHERT, ARGILLITE, CONGLOMERATE AND LIMESTONE RESPECTIVELY ARE INTRUDED BY INTER- MEDIATE FELSITIC TO PROPHYRITIC DYKES. DEFORMATION IS COMPLEX. PERVASIVE UPPER GREENSCHIST-LOWER AMPHIBOLITE FACIES METAMORPHISM IS EVIDENT. MINERALIZATION IS OF TWO TYPES: 1) GARNET-QUARTZ- EPIDOTE (CALCITE) SKARN IN META-ARGILLITE CONTAINS VARIABLE AMOUNTS OF MINOR TO TRACE SCHEELITE, PYRITE, POWELLITE AND CHALCOPYRITE. 2) A LOCAL STOCKWORK OF QUARTZ VEINS CONTAINS PYRITE, AND MINOR SCHEELITE AND MOLYBDENITE. MOLYBDENITE ALSO OCCURS IN FELSIC DYKES.
