Geological Summary
The majority of the area north of Forbidden Plateau and most of the claim area is underlain by Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation mafic submarine volcanics. Thin wedges of overlying Upper Triassic Quatsino Formation limestone and Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group intermediate volcanics are seen along the Oyster River. Unconformably overlying the Karmutsen Formation is the Upper Cretaceous Nanaimo Group Haslam and Comox Formations which consist of fine to coarse sediments. They have been intruded by Tertiary quartz diorite-monzonite which in places have split the Haslam and Comox in a sill, dyke or lopolith fashion, and brecciated the surrounding rock.
