Rock Bay Marine Park

Term:
30 years
Summary of Activity:
The purpose of the Project is to provide residents and visitors of remote communicates with reliable and affordable access to high-speed internet and related telecom services, which are vital in today’s high-tech connected world. In addition, the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) and Natural Resources Canada have asked for strategic landings, including the CCG Chatham Point Lighthouse. The purpose of the portion of the Project within the Park is to provide fibre optic services to the Chatham Point Lighthouse and full time residents in Rock Bay. Reliable, high speed communication will allow the CCG to more readily communicate and respond to emergency situations. For example, connectivity will allow the CCG to keep open lines of communication including video conferencing with medical professionals should their expertise be needed. CCG will be able to respond to search and rescue and environmental emergencies more efficiently and ultimately improve the safety of mariners and Park visitors, and the protection of the environment. The connection will also facilitate an early earthquake warning system installed at Chatham Point Lighthouse to be operated by Natural Resources Canada.
