Summary of Activity:
The purpose of the research is to use tree-rings to understand past climate change effects on the subalpine fir treeline and the role of the receding icefield in changing local climate, and involves dendrochronology (tree-ring) and climate change research near the terminus of the Llewellyn Glacier. Work includes obtaining cores and cross sections of dead, down, wood fragments/stumps and small cores from living trees to understand timing of tree mortality centuries ago. Climate monitoring activities include set up and annual maintenance of up to three small weather stations for the duration of the permit and annual deployment/replacement of multiple small temperature sensors.
