Parks:
Ospika Cones Ecological Reserve, Omineca Park, Chase Park, Omineca Protected Area
Term:
5 years
Summary of Activity:
This work is being completed as part of the ongoing Tsay Keh Dene Nation - Province of BC Environmental Stewardship Initiative, in which hoary marmot has been identified as a focal value. Previous work completed in 2001 by William Harrower completed surveys within the park boundary and documented marmot colony locations. We seek to resurvey these sites to determine if marmots are still present and to collect habitat data. Specific activities to be completed are observational surveys where we collect detailed vegetation and environmental data, and document the presence of marmots at survey locations. Research, monitoring and collection of bird songs, vegetation observations, insect samples will occur in Ospika Cones Ecological Reserve. Drones and photography will be used to capture images of vegetation patterns. Only a single organism of each insect species will be collected. Wolverines will be studied in Chase Park. Hair samples from non-invasive methods will be collected.
