Summary of Activity:
International Mountain Guides, LLC has one proposed expedition to complete a Juneau -> Atlin ski traverse of the Juneau Icefield, with two clients and two guides. This would be a one-off trip, with no intention to conduct future trips under this permit. Our proposed itinerary is to complete the traverse in 2-3 weeks, depending on weather and conditions. We will begin the journey in Juneau, AK, where we have a commercial-guiding permit through the Tongass National Forest. We will enter Atlin Provincial Park via the Llewellyn Glacier, which we will descend to its terminus. From the toe of the glacier, we will descend on trails to Atlin Lake, where we have arranged for a boat to pick up the group and return to Atlin. In Atlin, we will meet with the Canadian Border Patrol, which we will have arranged. We plan to bring at least 25-days of food and fuel, and to pack out all trash and human-waste. We will all be wearing skis and carrying full glacier-travel kits including the necessary harnesses, ropes, helmets, ice axes, crampons, skis and skins, slings, carabiners, rope-grab devices, ice screws, and pickets, in order to safely travel on the glacier and conduct a crevasse rescue if necessary. Both proposed mountain guides have relevant experience guiding around the world on mountains such as Denali, Mt. Everest, Mt. Vinson, and Mt. Rainier, and have both completed multiple traverses of the Juneau Icefield themselves. The proposed Lead Guide (myself) has worked for the Juneau Icefield Research Program before as a Field Guide, and has experience guiding students on the Juneau->Atlin traverse route. The proposed Assistant Guide has completed the Juneau Icefield Research Program as a student, and has completed the same traverse route.
