Summary of Activity:
This project aims to better understand grizzly bear behaviour and impacts in northwestern BC, particularly their seasonal movements, feeding patterns, habitat use, and role in ungulate mortality within Tahltan Territory. Running from 2025 to 2028, it involves capturing and fitting up to 20 grizzly bears with GPS collars (and possibly some black bears) to track movements, identify predation events, and assess diet through both tracking data and hair samples. The study combines scientific methods with Tahltan, local, and outfitter knowledge to support wildlife management decisions, including strategies for grizzly bears and culturally important ungulate species.
