Summary of Proposed Activity:
Kitsumkalum will host small-scale, community-led cultural learning visits at Exchamsiks River Park in partnership with regional tourism stakeholders. These visits are educational in nature and focus on sharing Tsimshian culture through storytelling, language, and traditional food knowledge. Group sizes are limited (approximately 20 to 35 participants), and activities are low-impact, taking place in designated public access areas. No guided hiking, mechanized access, or exclusive use of park infrastructure is involved. We recognize the importance of this site as one of the last remaining elder-accessible old growth areas with a paved pathway within Ts’msyen traditional territory, and approach its use with care, respect, and cultural responsibility. These visits do not include recreational guiding services or activities such as boating, fishing, or trail use. There is no modification to the land or facilities. The approach reflects Kitsumkalum’s role as caretakers, with an emphasis on respect for the land and environmental stewardship. Site care may include light cleanup to ensure the area is left in equal or better condition. The purpose of these visits is cultural education and awareness, not commercial recreation.
