THE ASPEN CLAIMS ARE UNDERLAIN BY TERTIARY AGE VOLCANIC ROCKS WHICH ARE DIVIDED INTO A LOWER RHYOLITE AND QUARTZ-RHYOLITE UNIT AND AN UPPER ANDESITE-BASALT UNIT. A LARGE AREA OF JASPER VEINING WITHIN THE UPPER VOLCANIC PILE HAS ASSOCIATED ANOMALOUS LEAD AND ZINC VALUES IN SOILS AND BEDROCK.
