Geological Summary
Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group andesitic-rhyodacitic pyroclastic rocks and Jurassic quartz-feldspar porphyry intrusives underlie the Bay Lake area. To the north of the lake the volcnaic rocks are underlain by southward dipping Upper Triassic Parsons Bay Formation calcareous siltstone with interbedded shales and andesitic and cherty tuffs, and limestone with shaly interbeds, the Upper Triassic Quatsino Formation limestone and Karmutsen Formation amygdaloidal basalt flows. Strong hydrothermal alteration and associated low grade disseminated chalcopyrite occur.
